The app and your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use Scripture Quest on devices you own or control, for your own personal, non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the rules of the app store you downloaded it from.

You agree not to: copy, sell, rent, or redistribute the app; reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract its source or question database except to the limited extent the law expressly permits; remove or alter any notices; or use the app in any unlawful way or to build a competing product.

Purchases and the one-time unlock

The app is free to play. It offers one optional in-app purchase (a one-time unlock) that removes the optional "watch an ad" buttons. This purchase is processed by Apple or Google (and our purchase-management provider), not directly by us, and is governed by the store's terms.

Because purchases are handled by the store, refunds are handled by the store (Apple or Google) under their policies. We cannot issue store refunds ourselves. The unlock is tied to your store account and can be restored on your devices.

Donations

You may choose to give a voluntary donation through our website to support the app's development. Donations are gifts. They are not a purchase, they are non-refundable, and they do not unlock any additional features, content, or rights in the app. Every feature remains available whether or not you donate.

Acceptable use and your content

Where the app offers optional online features (for example, choosing a display name for a leaderboard, or flagging a question you believe is incorrect), you agree not to submit anything that is unlawful, offensive, hateful, deceptive, infringing, or that impersonates another person.

You keep ownership of what you submit, but you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to use it as needed to operate and improve the app (for example, displaying a chosen display name on a leaderboard, or acting on a flagged question). We may remove content or withdraw access to these optional features at our reasonable discretion, for example to deal with abuse.

Scripture content and accuracy

Questions reference passages from public-domain translations of the Bible (the King James Version and the World English Bible) and are written to be translation-neutral. We check every question against the underlying text and review flagged items, but we make no guarantee that the app is free of every error. The app is provided for study and enjoyment and is not a substitute for reading Scripture itself or for pastoral or theological guidance. If you spot a mistake, please use the in-app "flag this question" option or email us, and we will look into it.

No affiliation

Scripture Quest is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple, Google, or any Bible publisher, translation rights-holder, church, or denomination.

Third-party services

The app relies on services provided by others, including Apple's App Store, Google Play, Google AdMob (for the optional rewarded ads), and our purchase-management provider. Any optional online features may use a hosting provider. Your use of those services is also subject to their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party services.

Intellectual property

The app, its name, logo, design, and the curated question set are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by law, except for the underlying public-domain Scripture texts. Nothing in these terms transfers any of those rights to you beyond the licence in section 1.

Disclaimers

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose. You use it at your own discretion.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the app.

Your statutory rights. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for any of your rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other mandatory UK consumer law, which are not affected by these terms.

Changes to the app and these terms

We may update the app and these terms from time to time, for example to add features or to reflect legal or store requirements. When we make material changes to these terms, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app's release notes. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Ending your use

You may stop using the app at any time and delete it from your device. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, and liability) will continue to apply.

Governing law

These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England & Wales, and the courts of England & Wales will have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer-protection rights of your country of residence.

Apple App Store terms

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, the following also applies: these terms are between you and us only, not Apple, and Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Apple has no obligation to provide support or to handle any claims relating to the app. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the Apple Media Services Terms and the standard Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement (EULA), which applies except where these terms are more restrictive.
